This course is run by the Department of Veterinary Medicine. Students will gain an appreciation of the role of the veterinary profession in society in its widest sense.

Including:

  • Broad history of the veterinary profession and how it has shaped the profession today;
  • Schools of ethical philosophy and examples of behaviour which demonstrate these schools of thought;
  • Analyse professional problems in terms of ethics and legislation pertaining to the veterinary profession;
  • Assign roles to the various professional organisations;
  • The role of the veterinary profession in global health issues including food safety;
  • An understanding of the importance of communication in client and interprofessional interactions.
