This course is run by the Department of Veterinary Medicine. Students will gain an appreciation of the role of the veterinary profession in society in its widest sense.
Broad history of the veterinary profession and how it has shaped the profession today;
Schools of ethical philosophy and examples of behaviour which demonstrate these schools of thought;
Analyse professional problems in terms of ethics and legislation pertaining to the veterinary profession;
Assign roles to the various professional organisations;
The role of the veterinary profession in global health issues including food safety;
An understanding of the importance of communication in client and interprofessional interactions.
